Telehealth Weight Loss: What to Expect at Your First Visit

Wondering how an online weight loss visit works? Here's a step-by-step look at the process, from quiz to your first delivery.

Medically reviewed by Dr. Ibrahim Elsheikh, MD, MBA

Telehealth makes it easier than ever to get medical support for weight loss. But if you've never had an online visit, it's natural to have questions. Here's what the process looks like.

Before your visit

It starts with a short eligibility quiz covering your goals, height and weight, and key health history. If you may be a candidate, you'll choose a program and complete a secure medical intake.

Have these handy:

  • A list of your current medications and supplements
  • Any recent lab results, if you have them
  • Your shipping address

During your visit

A licensed clinician reviews your intake. Depending on your state, this happens by a short video call or by a careful review of your answers. Your clinician will:

  • Confirm your health history and goals
  • Review any risks or reasons treatment may not be appropriate
  • Decide whether medication is right for you, and which option and starting dose to use

After your visit

If you're prescribed treatment, a licensed U.S. pharmacy ships your medication directly to you. You'll get updates by email and text as your order is processed and shipped.

From there, you'll check in regularly so your clinician can track your progress and adjust your dose.

Is telehealth as good as an in-person visit?

For many patients, yes. Telehealth removes barriers like travel and time off work, while still giving you access to licensed medical oversight. And if you ever need a more detailed evaluation, our in-person clinic in North Olmsted, Ohio, is available.
